(CNS Local Life): Island Heritage Insurance Company has awarded its 2019 Educational Grant to Hugh Dontaye Thomas, who already has an associate’s degree in business administration from the University College of the Cayman Islands, graduating with a GPA of 3.08, and has been accepted at the University of Southampton to study Accounting and Finance.

Ian Campbell, Executive Vice President, P&C, at Island Heritage, stated, “We were extremely impressed with the calibre of applicants and each year it is difficult to have to pick one recipient. Hugh stood out for his focus, determination and self-discipline. His commitment to making a positive impact on his community through his passion for football and his church, along with his strong sense of integrity, reflect the values at the core of Island Heritage, and we are delighted to present him with the 2019 Educational Grant.”

Established three years ago in celebration of Island Heritage’s 20th anniversary, the Educational Grant offers a Caymanian student a US$5,000 award to help fund college or university studies. Criteria for selection include academic excellence, demonstrated leadership experience, and community engagement and service. The recipient is selected by a committee of Island Heritage staff.
