Brackers turn out for DG’s 5K Challenge

(CNS): Governor Martyn Roper, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson and Strategic Operations Officer Jennifer Ahearn were among the 72 participants in the Cayman Brac 2019 DG’s 5K Challenge on Sunday, 15 September.

Greg Shepherd from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) was the fastest male and Claudia Martin of the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) the fastest female. They were also first and third respectively in the 30-39 year old age category.

The Layman Scott High School had the highest number of participants among the school entrants, with Brac Insurance Associates among business. The Health Services Authority (HSA) was the best represented Statutory Authority and Government Company (SAGC) and District Administration also had a good turnout. 

“Kicking off the 2019 DG’s 5K Challenge on the Brac on Sunday was the perfect start to this year’s event,” Manderson said. “It was especially good to see everyone enjoying themselves, while supporting some excellent causes and participating in some healthy exercise.”

He added, “I’m now looking forward to the event on Grand Cayman in two weeks time. I encourage you all to join us, whether you want to enjoy a walk alongside friends or push for a personal best. Everyone is welcome!”

This year funds raised will be split evenly between the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, the Special Needs Foundation Cayman and the Alex Panton Foundation.

The DG’s 5K Challenge is committed to promoting a more sustainable Cayman Islands, so participants are asked to bring their own water bottle to the event.        

The Grand Cayman event will take place on Sunday, 29 September and prospective participants can register now on the CaymanActive website.
