(CNS Local Life): The fundraising target for this year’s Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge is $70,000, which will be split evenly among three charitable causes: the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, the Special Needs Foundation Cayman and the Alex Panton Foundation. DG Franz Manderson has said that they are on track to reach the ambitious fundraising goal and provide real support to the three chosen charities.

He added, “It is only possible thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. Providing tangible assistance to great causes like these is testament to the spirit of Caymankind in both the public and private sectors, who come together for the good of the community and to promote healthy exercise.”

When the event’s biggest sponsors met with Manderson last week to present their cheques, he thanked them for their generosity in continuing to support the event, now in its sixth year.

Platinum sponsor Appleby has committed $17,500 to the event, and gold sponsors EY, Butterfield, Davenport, Credit Union and Dart have committed $5,000 apiece. The half-way point sponsor, CINICO, has donated $4,000 to the cause.

This year, event organisers are urging participants to bring their own water bottle, in an effort to promote a more sustainable Cayman Islands.

Prospective participants can register now on the Cayman Active website. The first 400 participants to register will receive a special, limited-edition cap, thanks to platinum sponsor, Appleby.
