(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Heart Fund (CHF) will be celebrating World Heart Day on Sunday, 29 September, with ‘Light the Sky Red’ at Camana Bay, when everyone is encouraged to come out wearing red and watch the sky light red in honour of the Heart Warriors and Heart Heroes. CHF is also promoting its ‘Wear Red’ campaign on Friday, 27 September. To support them in their efforts, the charity recently received a generous donation from BritCay.

BritCay Health Manager Lamar Haynes said, “The Cayman Heart Fund is one of the local non-profits who we applaud for their efforts to save lives simply by educating the local population about heart and circulatory diseases, and by providing access to life-saving cardiac equipment. Heart disease is a major health challenge in the Cayman Islands, so we hope that others in the community will see the value of partnership with the CHF and join us in supporting their various endeavours.”

CHF Chairperson Dr Bella Beraha said, “We are thrilled and thankful for the support shown by the community ahead of World Heart Day. BritCay is a strong supporter of the preventative medicine and we thank them for their generous donation. The Cayman Heart Fund strives to educate the public about cardiovascular disease; donations such as these help us to get closer to achieving the goal of eradicating heart disease in the Cayman Islands.”

World Heart Day is a global campaign during which individuals, families, communities and governments around the world participate in activities to take charge of their own and others’ heart health.

CHF is encouraging people to wear something red on Friday, 27 September, to stand together with CHF and its ‘Wear Red’ campaign to show their commitment to taking charge of their own heart health as well as the health of those they cannot bear to live without.

“Making a commitment to your health isn’t something you have to do alone either, so grab a friend or a family member and make a Cayman Heart Fund commitment today,” CHF said in a release.

Angelique Bodden, Coordinator of Cayman Heart Fund said, “World Heart Day is a fantastic way to remind everyone to focus on their hearts and encourage them to get their families, friends and communities involved.”

CHF wants people to commit to:

  • a promise to your families to cook and eat more healthily
  • a promise to your children to exercise more help them to be more active, to say no to smoking and help loved ones stop,
  • a promise as an employee to invest in heart-healthy workplaces,
  • a simple promise for My Heart, for Your Heart and for All Our Hearts.
