(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands Tennis Club hosted the sixth round of the PwC Junior Circuit on Friday and Saturday, 4-5 October. The tournament had 23 entrants: 19 in singles in the three age divisions (10 & Under, 14 & Under, and 18 & Under) and four in the doubles in the 14 & Under.

The CITC said that the first day’s matches went smoothly. There were delays on the second day due to rain but play got underway at 3:30pm and conditions were cool and overcast.

In the 10&U round robin Mico Samson finished first, going 4-0 on the weekend. Second place went to newcomer Hayden Sunley, who went 3-1, only losing to Samson in a close match 6-4, 5-7, 10-4. Third place went to Leo Frank, who had close matches with both Samson and Sunley.

The 14&U singles had 10 participants with another final featuring Rafael Wejbora and Albert Berksoy, with Wejbora prevailing in a hard fought two-set match 7-6, 6-4. Third place went to Phin Ellison, who defeated Josh Richardson 6-3, 6-4. Abi Anderson won the consolation draw defeating Digby Robinson 6-2, 6-2.

The 14&U doubles had four participants with Abi Anderson/George Zimmerman defeating Phin Ellison/Josh Richardson in an 8 game pro-set, 9-8.

The 18&U division featured a three player round, with Oskar Bjuroe winning the title. After the matches concluded, there was a 3-way tie with each player finishing 1-1. Each player also won 4 sets and lost 2. The next determining factor was fewest number of games lost. Oskar Bjuroe and Jake Booker tied in number of games lost, so head to head determined the final outcome, with Bjorue defeating Booker 6-2, 6-1. Jakub Neveril finished third, despite defeating the eventual champion, Oskar Bjuroe, in match play 6-3, 6-2.

The club thanked the Tennis Federation of the Cayman Islands for organising the event, PwC for their continued sponsorship, and the Cayman Islands Tennis Club for generously providing its facilities for the tournament on short notice.
