Horacio Esteban “locked in” for artist event
(CNS): Local visual artist Horacio Esteban will be representing the Cayman Islands at a special programme that will coincide with the NatWest Island Games in Jersey this summer. The Jersey Arts Trust is producing the “Inter-Island Artist Lock-In” in partnership with Jersey Heritage and WildWorks Theatre Company at which 20 artists from islands competing in the Games have been invited to develop their ideas and stretch their practice through a spirit of collaboration.
The artists will spend 10 days living at Elizabeth Castle in Jersey, where they will develop shared work around the theme of “Islandness”. The artists come from a range of disciplines and backgrounds, including sculpture, paint, dance, music, theatre, literature, poetry, textile and film.
The artists will be in residence at the castle from 22 June until 2 July and will be taken through a series of tasks that encourage teamwork and creative thinking. As the residency progresses, the tasks will become more focused, until the participants are left to work together to make shared pieces that will be showcased to an audience in the final two days.
