(CNS): The Cayman Islands Football Association’s (CIFA) annual awards ceremony celebrated local players, coaches, officials and administrators as well as honouring members of the football community who participate in the association’s 11 leagues and programmes for both males and females in all age categories.

More than 300 players, officials and guests attended the ceremony, held 26 June at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort and hosted by Sheena Hurlstone. Members of CIFA’s executive committee presented awards to more than 50 players, coaches and officials in recognition of their participation and continued contribution to the association.

Particular recognition was given to David Connolly, who was awarded in four categories — the U23 League Most Valuable Player, Cayman Premier League Most Valuable Player, Cayman Premier League Top Scorer and U23 Men’s FA Cup Most Valuable Player.

“We are always proud of the talent being cultivated within our local leagues and the 2014-15 season was no exception,” said CIFA Acting President Bruce Blake. “It was especially pleasing to see our youngest players being recognised at the awards ceremony.”

Blake also commended those involved in women’s football, which continues to go from strength to strength.
