(L-R) GIS summer interns Japhia Augustine, Nikita Scott and Abigail Ebanks

(CNS): Three summer interns have been learning all about communications while working with Government Information Services (GIS). The young women are writing press releases, taking photographs, and doing administrative work for the Cayman Islands Gazette; taking on videography for CIGTV; and, overall, learning about mass communications while shadowing staff in the department.

Abigail Ebanks, who recently graduated from St. Ignatius Catholic School, is interested in videography and other television elements of GIS. Her week-long work placement entailed helping videotape and edit shows for CIGTV.

Nikita Scott has focused on administrative work. A recent Cayman Islands Further Education Centre graduate, she has completed work-skills training in areas including IT and business studies. She will soon be attending the University College of the Cayman Islands, focusing on hospitality and business management.

Japhia Augustine has been taking on writing and media assignments with GIS information officers. She is on summer break after her first year at Canterbury Christ Church University, England. After advancing her skills in literature she hopes to pursue a career in writing.

In addition to the GIS trio, participants in the annual government internship programme are attached to departments ranging from planning and tourism to finance and economics.

Three other interns will work at GIS in August.
