US ambassador to Jamaica visits
(CNS): US Ambassador to Jamaica Luis G. Moreno recently carried out his first official visit to the Cayman Islands, during which he hosted a reception for top government officials and honorary consuls led by Acting Governor Franz Manderson.
Moreno highlighted the unique arrangement that allows a US consular agent to be stationed in the Cayman Islands despite the US Embassy being located in Jamaica. At the reception, the ambassador reiterated his primary assignment as the care of American citizens in the region in countries under his office’s jurisdiction.
He also noted that in addition to 11,000 American citizens living in Cayman, nearly one million Americans visit the Islands as tourists annually.
Among those accompanying the ambassador were officials from the US Embassy in Jamaica and representatives from the US Department of Homeland Security. Guests at the reception also included Chief Justice Anthony Smellie, Acting Deputy Governor Gloria McField-Nixon, Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson, Ministry of Home Affairs Chief Officer Eric Bush and local US consular agent Gary Montemayor.
Honorary consuls in attendance included Martin Richter (Austria), Dr. Krishna Mani (India) and Peter Schmid (Switzerland).

Will Cayman Islands residents/citizens ever be able to get US visas right here in Cayman to eliminate travelling to Jamaica or Bahamas for this? Are there any efforts by the Government and Immigration to make this possible?
