Airports Authority staff attend security course
(CNS): Three staff of the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) recently completed a course on air cargo and mail security presented by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). The CIAA hosted the five-day ICAO/Canada Programme Cargo and Mail Security course for Belize, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and the Turks and Caicos Islands that was held in Grand Cayman from 26-30 October.
The goal of the course was to give participants a better understating of Annex 17 – Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) related to cargo, their link with security programmes, the importance of maintaining a secure supply chain, and the role and responsibilities of entities in charge of secure air cargo and mail against acts of unlawful interference.
Commenting on the course, CIAA chief safety officer Shane Bothwell said, “I am pleased that staff from the airport security unit and hold baggage screening department were able to benefit from this training. This is just another step in our continuing efforts to ensure that our airports, both in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, meet the highest security and safety standards.”
