Child Month focuses on positive future for kids
(CNS): This May marks the 20th observance of Child Month, an annual series of events and family activities that help raise awareness of the important role of the community in making the Cayman Islands a better place for children. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has once again partnered with other government and community organisations to facilitate the public family events which promote an investment in children for long-term benefit, shaping their lives by a holistic approach of social, academic, emotional, spiritual and physical interaction.
This year’s Child Month kicks off with a live radio broadcast of the opening church service on Sunday, 1 May at 11am, at the Church of God Universal on Walkers Road.
Urging national participation, Minister for Community Affairs, Youth & Sports, Osbourne Bodden said, “It is important that we as a community come together to participate in these events but also to assist each other in teaching and protecting our children. The theme of ‘Shaping Our Future’ indicates how each of us and the community at large can contribute to ensuring a successful future for our children.”
Events include presentations on child protection, which is the mandate of DCFS, and other activities in all three Cayman Islands.
