Cayman Prep wins senior Battle of the Books
(CNS): Following a tense morning of literary combat in this year’s Lera Parchment Battle of the Books competition, held Saturday, 7 May at John A Cumber Primary School, the Cayman Prep Demi-Gods emerged as the senior division champions. The winning group scored a total of 338 points, pushing them just ahead of the John Gray High School Sherlocks who were runners up with 331 points.
In the junior division, the George Town Primary School Aslans emerged as joint champions alongside the St Ignatius Hagrid’s Beards, both scoring 346 points.
The other participating teams were the Sir John A. Cumber Primary School Mystery Readers; the Cats in the Hat, Olympians and Puss in Boots from Cayman International School; and the St Ignatius entries the Lightning Thieves, Spikes, Hedwigs and Potter Heads.
Battle of the Books is an annual children’s reading competition organised by Cayman Islands Information Professionals, which is a library association promoting literacy and advocating for libraries.
“Battle of the Books was excellent this year and all participants were very impressive,” said Paul Robinson, one of the competition’s organisers. “We must give a special mention to Cayman International School Puss in Boots in the junior division. They scored a total of 344 points – only two points less than our joint junior champions.”
