Brac celebrates Queen’s birthday with tea party
(CNS): More than $1,600 was raised at the fourth annual Queen’s birthday tea party held on Cayman Brac and hosted by the National Trust. The money will be put toward the trust’s Lands Acquisition Fund (LAF), which purchases land as a permanent sanctuary for native plants and animals. Every year the Cayman Brac District Committee for the National Trust sponsors the event, which features a raffle, savoury and sweet treats, local artwork and, of course, tea.
Volunteers were on hand to sell tickets, serve food and drink, help in the kitchen and clean up. Even non-Trust members stepped in to lend a hand where needed.
Raffled items included a welcome basket, suitcases and jewellery.
The food was served on decorated tables on the Heritage House garden grounds, with exotic and local teas sipped from delicate teacups and glasses. Minnie Branch, who won the “split the cash” raffle of $1,200, donated an additional half to the LAF.
The artwork was on display in the air-conditioned hall, along with a video depicting the adventures of the National Trust group.
The event blends the traditional English tea party with Cayman’s tropical heritage.
