(CNS): The 2016 Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship recipient, Sean Whewell, will be studying marketing at Durham University starting in September, having just completed his International Baccalaureate at the United World Colleges in New Mexico. Before that, Whewell was a student at St Ignatius Catholic School. “Sean is a high-achieving and charismatic young Caymanian who impressed us with his dedication to his studies, extra-curricular activities and his determination to succeed,” said Catherine Healy, account manager in Butterfield Bank’s marketing department.
“We are pleased to assist him in fulfilling his goals through our annual undergraduate scholarship.”
Michael McWatt, the bank’s managing director, added, “We congratulate Sean and wish him the very best of luck in his studies. Butterfield continues to be committed to the development of Cayman’s young people. Through this scholarship we can have a positive impact on the development of tomorrow’s leaders.”
The undergraduate scholarship began in 1993 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Butterfield in the Cayman Islands. Available for any course of study that will benefit Cayman, the scholarship awards the recipient with up to US$30,000 annually, for a maximum of four years of study. Past recipients of this scholarship include teachers, lawyers and architects within the Cayman community.
