Batabano takes parade on the road
(CNS Local Life): Cayman Carnival Batabano is hosting its second J’Ouvert road parade and breakfast fete Saturday, 22 April 2017. “Last year’s Batabano J’Ouvert parade was an historic event, being the first parade route of its kind to be granted permission by the RCIPS and the Liquor Licensing Board as an all-inclusive parade and fete,” said Batabano chairperson Donna Myrie-Stephen. “We were so thrilled with the response and turnout for the inaugural Batabano J’Ouvert last year that we couldn’t wait to do it again this year.”
In keeping with J’Ouvert tradition, the parade will feature lots of paint and mud, which is included, so participants are expected to dress accordingly. The event starts at 4am, also a J’Ouvert tradition. However, like last year, the parade route will remain a mystery until midnight when it will be announced via the Batabano social media sites.
Myrie-Stephen said revellers can expect a more streamlined experience than last year, from the collection of their J’Ouvert packages to the distribution of drinks and breakfast at the event.
“This year we also have Giselle the Wasssi One from Miami joining us as a visiting emcee alongside DJs Marlon of Eternal Vibes, DJ Craig, DJ Omar, and DJ Frost from Hot 104.1, so it’s going to be an event not to be missed as we gear up for Batabano the first weekend in May,” she said.
Tickets are $60 each which cover all drinks (including alcohol), a Cayman breakfast, an official J’Ouvert T-shirt, mud, paint, a backpack and other giveaways and surprises. Tickets are only available at the Cayman Carnival website.
