New stamps out of this world
(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands Postal Service has issued a four-stamp set that features images from space. The photographs used for the stamps were taken at the Dr William Hrudey Observatory, based at the University College of the Cayman Islands. Depicted are the moon (25¢ stamp), Saturn (50¢), the sun (75¢) and Jupiter ($1.60).
The stamp set and a first-day cover (costing $3.90) are available from the Philatelic Bureau of the Seven Mile Beach Post Office (in West Shore Plaza), the counter of the General Postal Office in George Town, or the Hell Sub-Post Office in West Bay.
Additionally, the stamps alone may be obtained at any post office in the Cayman Islands.
The Postal Service’s first such themed set was the July 2009 Space Exploration stamp series, which commemorated the 40th anniversary of the first manned landing on the moon.
