Italian consul general visits
(CNS Local Life): Italian Consul General Gloria Marina Bellelli paid a brief courtesy call on Premier Alden McLaughlin at his office in the Government Administration Building Monday, 24 July. Bellelli assumed her duties as consul general in Miami in September 2015, with jurisdiction for Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Jamaica, St Marten, St Eustatius, Saba, American Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, and Bonaire.
Bellelli started her diplomatic career in 1998, first at the Directorate General for Economic Affairs and then at the General Directorate for Economic and Financial Multilateral Cooperation, where she was engaged in scientific, technological and defence cooperation, and financial politics in international organisations.
She has also served as chief of commercial affairs at the Italian embassy in Algiers and as consul at the Italian embassy in Israel.
In 2012 she returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome as director general for country development. She helped organise large-scale events such as the ongoing Italy in US programme, a one-stop portal to Italian cultural and commercial activities in the US. As head of the Office for Cultural Politics she helped promote the image of the ministry through hosting at their Rome office the “Collezione Farnesina”, a display of contemporary Italian artists.
