Governor’s design award winners announced
(CNS Local Life): For the first time in the Governor’s Award for Design and Construction, two winners were named, one each for commercial and residential. In the fourth such awards under this scheme, Camana Bay office building 18 Forum Lane and the “Linger Longer” residence were honoured at the 7 December ceremony held at Government House.
The Camana Bay building was announced as the “Hospitality and Commercial” winner for “its seamless blend into the modern Caribbean master-planned Camana Bay Town Centre and its outstanding sustainable design”, stated a press release.
Designed by US-based Lake Flato architects, the building incorporates the concept of “New Urbanism” in the Cayman Islands, as envisaged by owners, the Dart Group. The judges noted the well-executed construction by Decco/Dart Development and detailing and space usage, said the press release. Overall, the committee said the building creates a first-class modern working environment equal to any in the world, but distinctly and very comfortably local.
The “Linger Longer” residence was designed by NEXT Development Group and built by Joe’s Construction. The judges commended the elegantly simple lines of this family home that they felt exemplified traditional Caymanian architecture whilst including modern twists, the press release said.
Governor Helen Kilpatrick, in conjunction with the Cayman Society of Architects, Surveyors & Engineers (CASE) and the Cayman Contractors Association, officially launched this year’s awards in October.
The next Governor’s Award for Design and Construction Excellence will be held in 2019.
