Health City to add cancer treatment centre
(CNS Local Life): Health City Cayman Islands (HCCI) expects to break ground soon on a cancer treatment centre. The multi-million-dollar facility, which will be on the hospital’s East End grounds and is described as a “state-of-the-art centre offering medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation” is projected to be up and running by December next year.
Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, CEO of the Narayana Health Group, the Indian health care provider behind Health City, said in an HCCI press release that the facility will include accommodation for overseas patients and all-inclusive cancer care, making it the first such comprehensive facility in the Caribbean. It will provide medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation under one roof, in addition to being a bone marrow transplant facility.
State-of-the-art equipment and procedures will be employed, the release stated. “Once again Narayana Health and Health City Cayman Islands will bring medical advancement to the region, while fulfilling a vital need in the Caribbean’s healthcare landscape,” Dr Raghuvanshi said.
The hospital already has a medical oncology facility, with a five-bed daycare chemotherapy unit.
HCCI clinical director Dr Binoy Chattuparambil said of the cancer centre, “Health City Cayman Islands continues to follow our mission to transform the delivery of health care in the Caribbean and beyond. As we expand our oncology services, we are committed to remaining on the forefront of medical innovation, while maintaining our patient-centric focus on providing high quality, compassionate and affordable care.”
Dr. Chattuparambil emphasised that the new centre will work hand-in-hand with the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority, as well as private physicians, to ensure that local patients receive seamless and comprehensive treatment through a collaborative and holistic approach.

Expansion of cancer services in Cayman will help many, but we need to uncover what’s causing certain types of cancer in the Caribbean, particularly here in Cayman. Health services cannot even track local statistics properly due to under reporting. Yet, I hope the Government and civil society orgs e.g. PUBLIC HEALTH and THE CANCER SOCIETY are working on policies to ensure exposure to cancer causing toxins are limited in Cayman. What local landscaping companies are still importing, selling (and using) Roundup in Cayman?

This really is excellent news. I’m a huge fan of the services and facilities (and the costs) at Health City. What a great bunch of people. The Cayman government could learn a lot from Dr Shetty about how to run an efficient and cost effective medical service and about the insurance/payments to fund it.
Great news!! First thing the HSA needs to do is tell all their front of house staff in all departments to smile and hold their heads up when talking with persons checking in and not to put up their “closed” sign and leave to go buy breakfast at 9:00 when there is a line of persons waiting to be checked in.
Wha? When we gon get time to read our patty and eat our newspaper?
