Trinidadian artist to lecture at National Gallery
(CNS Local Life): Artist and writer Chris Cozier will be in Cayman to give a public lecture Friday, 19 May 2017, starting at 6pm, at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) Dart Auditorium. In his lecture, “Actions Between Territories”, Cozier will discuss the potential free/play spaces that Caribbean artists are constantly imagining, constructing and navigating.
These include Alice Yard, a residency space in his native Trinidad of which is a co-founder and co-director, that encourages creative experiment, collaboration and improvisation.
He will also talk about how the established idea of the Caribbean persists, as a viable fiction, as a site of exchange, or an owned product or territory traded between various beneficiaries, internal and external, stated an NGCI press release.
Cozier has participated in a number of exhibitions focused upon contemporary art in the Caribbean and internationally. Since 1989 Cozier has published a range of essays in a number of catalogues and journals. He was also a senior research fellow at the Academy of The University of Trinidad & Tobago (2006-2010) and artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College during the fall of 2007.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
