Youngsters treated to breakfast for Child Month
(CNS Local Life): Around 175 primary school children enjoyed a buffet breakfast and live entertainment staged by Circle of Love Women’s Ministry in honour of Child Month, on Saturday, 27 May 2017. The event, titled “Hold My Hand & Guide Me”, was attended by 315 guests including teachers, parents and Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) staff.
DCFS Director Felicia Robinson welcomed everyone and thanked the ministry for its sixth consecutive year of hosting the event.
This year’s junior speaker was Erin Parchment from John A. Cumber Primary School. In taking up the event’s theme, she said that technology alone would never satisfy the needs of children, and urged parents to take an active role to guide their children in growing up, while asking her peers to listen to their parents.
Three-year-old Liam Roberts stunned attendees by singing the National Song and was showered with applause.
Founder of the Circle of Love Women’s Ministry and current treasurer, Julie Hunter, said, “The morning brought together parents and children, and encouraged them to spend time together. The breakfast’s slogan also aimed to highlight children’s need for more parental involvement.”
Attended by students of most of Grand Cayman’s government-run primary schools, the breakfast also hosted youngsters from two private schools and three aftercare clubs.
Elihandro Bodden gave the main student address and Jordan McLean offered a moving testimony about overcoming adversity in life.
Besides enjoying fellowship, children, parents, DCFS staff, volunteers and teachers listened to musical performances, as well as to speech and poetry recitations.
