Chamber golf tourney scores with players
(CNS Local Life): The Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic, held Friday, 16 February at the North Sound Golf Club, featured 27 teams battling on the links over five hours. In addition to the four-person-team scramble format, golfers played for bragging rights and prizes in a series of closest-to-the-pin and longest drive challenges.
The Yello Media Group team walked away overall winners at the end of the day. The tournament was originally scheduled for November 2017 but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Law firm Harneys and title sponsor Kirk Freeport earned second and third place, respectively.
Gregg Anderson was among the winners of the individual challenges, recording the longest drive on hole 12. Emily Ribbins also claimed two prizes – hitting closest-to-the-pin on hole one and recording the longest drive on hole 14.
All of the winners for those two challenges received jewellery (including watches, earrings and bracelets) donated by Kirk Freeport.
“The Golf Classic is one of our favourite chamber events as it allows a wide range of businesses to network and share some laughs whilst enjoying an afternoon on the golf course,” said chamber president-elect and Kirk Freeport vice president, Christopher Kirkconnell.
“We’ve sponsored the tournament for several years and each year we enjoy ourselves even more. And with a record number of teams taking part this year, it’s clear that the membership loves it too.”
There was also a raffle, with a range of businesses donating such prizes as a gym membership, supermarket gift certificate, three-litre bottle of scotch and two-night hotel staycation.
“On behalf of the council and staff I would like to thank Kirk Freeport for serving as the Golf Classic title partner, as well as the many other members who helped make the tournament a success,” said president Paul Byles.
“The tournament is a great networking event and a lot of fun, and I would encourage all of our partners to join us again in November for the 2018 Classic.”
This year’s event is set for Friday, 2 November at North Sound Golf Club.
