Charity event pulls in funds for Special Olympics
(CNS Local Life): Ahead of the opening of the Special Olympics National Games this week, the inaugural Kirkland Franklin Memorial Fire Truck Pull attracted six teams in an effort to raise money for Special Olympics Cayman Islands (SOCI) athletes. Representatives of four law enforcement agencies, along with two corporate teams, participated in the event, held Saturday, 2 June.
The National Games’ opening ceremony, along with track and field, and swimming events were held Monday and Tuesday. Bocce will feature today (Wednesday, 6 June) at 5:30pm at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex; with basketball on Thursday, 7 June at 5:30pm at the First Baptist Christian School; paddleboard Saturday, 9 June at 9am at Governor’s Beach; and football on Tuesday,12 June at 5:30pm at the sports complex.
Each team at the charity event included one Special Olympics athlete pulling with them. The Cayman Islands Fire Service took home the winner’s trophy in the law enforcement competition and Cayman Islands CrossFit won the corporate section, stated a press release.
A large number of Special Olympics athletes as well as members of the public also came out to watch the truck pull. The event was organised by the Cayman Islands Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics committee.
