National Trust promotes green start to school
(CNS Local Life): Ahead of the beginning of the school year, the National Trust for the Cayman Islands has joined two initiatives to encourage students to recycle. The Trust is now a registered collection centre for the Crayola “ColorCycle” and Elmer’s “Glue Crew” recycling programmes. The initiative, which began 9 August, will continue throughout the school year.
Recycling receptacles have been set up at the Trust’s Nature Store in Dart Family Park on South Church Street. The programme is part of the organisation’s “continued commitment to helping Cayman reduce plastic waste and to encourage local efforts to make Cayman a cleaner, greener place to live”, said a Trust press release.
To participate, young people are asked to bring in their used markers of any brand and empty, clean glue bottles or glue sticks to the store and the National Trust will recycle them for free.
This programme was created to help children understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment while diverting this waste stream from Cayman’s already overburdened landfill, said the Trust, which is encouraging all teachers and parents to participate.
Anyone interested in taking part in this environmental initiative should visit the Nature Store or email the National Trust
