Air traffic control trainees set to fly high

(CNS): Two air traffic control (ATC) trainees from Cayman Brac are in Trinidad and Tobago taking an intensive four-month course at that country’s Civil Aviation Training Centre. Eric Bodden and Carley Lazzari, who have been training at Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA), left Friday, 11 September, for their specialised study.
Bodden and Lazzari will be trained in air traffic control with a main focus on aerodrome control. Once they have completed the course, they will return to Grand Cayman where they will undergo on-the-job-training with a qualified ATC instructor assessing them against the unit’s approved qualification training programme. The validation of these two individuals will enable better coverage and more flexibility at CKIA air traffic control.
Cayman Islands Airports Authority’s CEO Albert Anderson said about the specialised training: “Redeveloping the terminal building is just one part of our strategic plan to improve services at Owen Roberts International Airport. We also want to develop talent and invest in our employees to ensure that staff is able to provide our passengers with world-class service in a safe and secure environment.”
