National Trust brings ‘Hatitude’ to annual fundraiser
(CNS): The National Trust will hold its third annual Hatitude fundraiser themed “Brunch Upon a Time” at Grand Old House on Sunday, 31 January. Patrons are encouraged to dress as someone famous from history whether real or fantasy, in full regalia or just highlighted by choice of hat. To promote the event, the Trust will be auctioning a series of hats, with 10 local artists each designing a unique piece based on the theme for the brunch.
Local milliner Laura Anderton will lead two hat-making workshops on 23 and 24 January where students will have the opportunity to design their own pieces as well as purchase her handmade fascinators and hats, and enjoy a champagne closing reception.
Proceeds from the National Trust’s largest fundraising event of the year will enable the organisation to continue to provide visitors and residents, including local school students, with presentations and class field trips and a range of other tours, workshops and activities. These include nature hikes and historic walking tours, lectures, traditional cooking classes and numerous outreach events.
“Even though the Trust works to protect historic and environmental sites, sometimes it’s easy to forget we are doing so to secure a better future for Cayman,” said Trust Executive Director Christina Pineda. “As such, we wanted to develop a fundraising event that was fresh and relevant, to engage a wider demographic within the community and hopefully help them to learn a bit more about our important work and the benefits of becoming a Trust member.”
Tickets are available at the Trust retail store located at the Dart Family Park in South Sound. The brunch buffet costs CI$75 (Trust members), CI$100 (non-members) CI$105 (Trust annual membership and ticket) or CI$1,500 (corporate 10-seater table, which includes two bottles of Champagne, six Glow Run passes, four tour passes for the Mastic Trail and Mission House, and six Families in the Wild passes.
“We are excited to celebrate history in a creative way through our ‘Brunch Upon a Time’,” said Trust Marketing Manager Danielle Watler.
“We are looking forward to seeing the creative costumes and hats that our guests will be displaying on event day and we are sure that the ‘Most Hatitude’ competition will be epic this year.”
