Competition opens for aspiring filmmakers
(CNS): Registration has opened for the 2016 Young Image Makers Short Film (YIM) competition. Organised by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF), the contest offers a chance for budding filmmakers to vie for the opportunity to attend a one-week movie camp run by the New York Film Academy.
The CNCF is calling on young people who dream of becoming screenwriters, producers or directors, as well as those who love storytelling using moving images and have a story they feel is worth sharing.
Anyone who has been working on a short video or has an idea that they want to bring to life is invited to take part.
Until 13 April, students across the Cayman Islands from ages 10 to 17 may register and submit short films that are from one to three minutes long for a chance to work with local film and television professionals. Organisers are looking for the funniest, scariest and most thought-provoking short films and music videos.
Students who are selected in the preliminary round of YIM will take part in a special workshop and then go on to compete for the New York Film Academy summer movie camp experience, with one winner in the 10- to 13-year-old age group and one in the 14- to 17-year-old category.
Runners-up will each receive a CNCF prize pack. Finalists’ films are also uploaded to a dedicated website where the public can view and vote to determine the People’s Choice Award. The school with the highest number of selected entries will also be recognised.
All winners will be announced at the YIM red carpet premiere, set for 30 June.
