Arts group highlights local writers
(CNS Local Life): A local art studio is holding its first writers showcase Thursday, 13 October. The Art Nest Creative Community Studio event will feature five local authors: Mike Ferrier, who will be launching his new book, Cold Winds over Cayman; along with Taura Ebanks, Sophia McKenzie, Karolyn Smith and Alta Solomon, all of whom will be available for book signing and discussion.
Art Nest is a new venture which aims to develop and stimulate Cayman creativity. “There is an abundance of creativity on our Islands, but the artists, sculptors, writers and musicians need a venue to develop their work and be surrounded by like-minded creative personalities,” said founder Christina Pined.
The studio, which is located in Pasadora Place on Smith Road, will eventually offer more than 3,000 sq feet of artists’ work areas, teaching and co-sharing events, meeting space and arts reference library.
In addition to providing a place for its members to work, the studio offers a variety of classes, workshops and tailored events including the already running “Saturday Night Creative” where people can socialise and dabble in various art forms.
“A progressive community like Cayman needs to nurture and promote its creative heritage and we’re hoping Art Nest will play a major role,” Pineda said.
