(CNS): The Cayman Islands Cancer Society will host its Annual Cancer Survivors Dinner on Friday, 12 June in the Grand Ballroom at The Marriott Beach Resort in honour of cancer survivors and their caregivers.

This year’s event, themed “Life is a Gift”, promises to be an inspiring and uplifting evening. The reception, which starts at 5.30pm, will be followed by dinner, a grand prize draw and words of inspiration from Alex Stewart, a long-time volunteer counsellor for the Cancer Society.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is once again sponsoring the dinner, for which attendance is free.

“The Cancer Survivors dinner is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the gift of life while honouring the personal journeys of cancer survivors,” said Dr. Sook Yin, advocacy director of the Cancer Society.

“This is a truly inspirational celebration — every year brings tears, laughter and the chance to honour survivors for their strength and courage, and recognise family and friends for their unending support.

“We are also delighted to have Cancer Treatment Centers of America as the sole sponsor for the second year and we greatly value and appreciate their ongoing support.”

Dr. Scott Shelfo from CTCA’s Southeastern Regional Medical Center, in Atlanta, Georgia, explained why his organisation is sponsoring the event. “We are thrilled to work in partnership with the Cancer Society and proud to sponsor their survivors dinner once again,” he said.

“CTCA was founded on the principle of providing truly patient-centred care and we hope our ongoing relationship with the Cancer Society translates into healthier lives for everyone living on Island through education on cancer prevention and treatment.”

Survivors and their caregivers who wish to attend the dinner, should contact the Cancer Society on 949-7618 or email Victoria@cics.ky. Reservations are required by Wednesday, 10 June.
