2014 YCLA Finalists

(YCLA): The Young Caymanian Leaders Foundation has received more nominations than ever before for its signature YCLA programme, which is celebrating its 15-year anniversary this October. The YCLA has honoured five finalists each year, a total of 70 young Caymanian leaders who are worthy of recognition and praise by the community and who play an important role in encouraging young people to make good choices and be the best they can be.

Tara Godfrey, Foundation Coordinator, said, “As we prepare for our 15-year celebration, we are delighted to see that community support for the YCLA is stronger than ever, with churches, civic organisations, businesses and individuals sending in a total of 39 completed nominations for this year’s award. This is more than in any prior year in the programme’s history. We would like to thank all those who took the time to make their nominations, which will now be carefully reviewed to obtain the list of five finalists for this year’s Award.”

Jonathan Tibbetts, chairman of the YCLA Nominations Committee, added, “The profiles of this new group of young Caymanian leaders are extremely impressive. It is wonderful to know that so many outstanding young people are out there, already making their mark on our society, and providing role models for the younger generation. They serve to reinforce the mission of the YCLA, which is to recognise them and provide a platform for spreading their positive messages of hope and encouragement to our youth. The Committee will have a very difficult task selecting the final five candidates for YCLA 2015, but it is going to be a very exciting time.”

With a new generation of leaders at the helm, the YCLA Board says it is working hard to put on a truly memorable event for the 15-Year Anniversary celebration, which will be held on 17 October at the Ritz Carlton. The ceremony, themed “A Legacy of Leadership”, will bring together as many former finalists and recipients as possible for a special tribute that evening, when the fifteenth Award will be presented.

“YCLA 2015 will be an inspiring, uplifting and unforgettable event,” saidTara Godfrey. “We will be unveiling more details as the date draws closer. In the meantime, we would like to express special thanks once again to the community for their nominations and to our major sponsors Dart, IAMCO and Pricewaterhouse.”
