(CNS): Premier league champions Scholars International SC and FA Cup holders Cayman Athletic SC will kick off the local premier league football season next month with the annual Charity Shield match. Despite the controversies dogging the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA), the teams and fans will be looking forward to the return of the game at the TE McField Stadium (the Annex) on 11 October at 7pm.

The league itself will start the following week, on Sunday, 18 October. Meanwhile, CIFA is also looking for more ladies in the sport to fill a FIFA-sponsored women’s coaching course that starts this week.

Officials said there are still 12 spaces available for the course, which runs from 4:30pm to 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Monday — 10, 11 and 14 September — and from 8:30am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 September.

For more information or to register, e-mail James Rich or call the CIFA office at 949-5775.
