(PFL): Excitement was in the air at the Annex Field this past Saturday as the 2015/2016 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL) playoffs continued with the fourth and final round of games to see which schools would secure a berth in the semifinals.

Some schools had already guaranteed a place in the next round, which is scheduled for this Saturday, 23 January, but for those teams still fighting for the remaining spots, tensions were running high with players, coaches and parents alike all very nervous.

For the schools already eliminated, it was a chance for them to play the role of “spoilers” for the teams still trying to make it to the semifinals.

In the PFL Under 9 Consolation Cup, George Town Primary had the chance to knock off an undefeated Triple C team to claim top spot in the standings and, with it, an automatic spot in the final in two weeks. But, Kane Watson and his teammates had other ideas as young Watson sealed a 1-0 victory for the Crusaders and an automatic berth in the final.

In the PFL Under 9 Champions Cup, defending champions Cayman Prep came back from a goal down to beat St Ignatius Prep 3-1 in a must-win game, which saw them finish fourth in the final playoff standings on goal difference and gain the remaining semifinal place. Even with the loss, St Ignatius Prep finished third in the final standings to secure their place in the next round.

Cayman International School grabbed top spot in the final playoff standings after blanking NorthEast Schools 2-0 thanks to goals from Chad Murphy and Toby Johns. Savannah Primary secured second place in the standings with a convincing 3-1 win over Prospect Primary.
