Cayman Arts Festival brings international acts to local stage
(CNS): The 2016 Cayman Arts Festival (CAF), which runs from 18-26 February, will showcase world-class performers including soloists from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, American violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn, African drummer Mokhtar Samba and his band, and a jazz trio featuring 12-year-old Indonesian child prodigy Joey Alexander.
The CAF, which also has a tradition of supporting various art forms in addition to music, will feature “fringe” events including the Cayman Youth Choir, Sarah Pierson and Olujimi La Pierre; “Rising Stars”, showcasing selected finalists from the Butterfield Young Musician of the Year competition; and the National Gallery’s latest exhibition, “EN MAS’: Carnival and Performance Art of the Caribbean”, which will bring together Woz Kaly of Samba’s band, and local artists Beneil Miller and Ericka Rockett-McBean.
In addition, for the 2016 festival, all main performers will present free educational concerts for students from both public and private schools.
Ticket prices for adults are CI$30 per event, in advance; and CI$35 per at the door. Student prices are CI$8 in advance; and CI$10 at the door.
