Olympic coach speaks to John Gray students
(CNS): World-renowned swimming coach Bailey Weathers, who has worked with Olympic champions, gave a motivational talk to students at John Gray High School on Wednesday, 17 February. Weathers, who is the technical director of the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association, most recently worked with US swimmer Allison Schmitt, who won five medals, three of them gold, at the London Olympics in 2012.
He is also the former athletic director of Grace College in Indiana.
Talking to Year 9-11 students as part of Career Activities Week at the high school, Weathers shared his knowledge and expertise with pupils aspiring to become successful student athletes. “This means graduating from high school and subsequently from college or university, whilst pursuing their dreams of becoming the best at their chosen sport,” he said.
In particular, he spoke of the different pathways to applying for colleges overseas and how best to make applications for particular programmes.
The purpose of Weather’s presentation was to engage with the students, providing a framework of advice and guidance for them to share with their parents, teachers, coaches and sponsors.
