Orchid show blossoms this weekend
(CNS): The Annual Orchid Show and Fundraising Sale, set for 27 and 28 February at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, will feature hundreds of blooming and non-blooming orchids and include a speech by world-renowned orchid hybridizer Gene Crocker. Hosted by the park and the Cayman Orchid Society, the show, which will run from 9am to 4:30pm each day, is the largest event of the year held at that venue.
A world leader in the hybridisation of the Cattleya Genera, Crocker will give an educational speech on both days starting at 11am.
The Visitor Centre will be transformed into a display of Orchid Society members’ plants. There will also be a BBQ starting at 11am each day.
“We will have over a thousand orchids for sale from bare root Cattleya species and hybrids, spectacular blooming Vanda and Phalaenoposis species and hundreds more,” said John Lawrus, general manager of the Botanic Park.
The event is aimed at raising funds for the Cayman Orchid Society and the Botanic Park, which will go toward the development of the park’s Orchid Boardwalk.
Admission is CI$8 for adults, with children under 12 free.
