Cayman mounts show jumping contest
(CNS): The Equestrian Centre on Linford Pierson Highway is hosting a two-day invitational show jumping competition with riders from Jamaica and the US going against local riders. The free event starts 8am on both Saturday and Sunday, 14 and 15 May. Local riders will share a horse with visitors for the weekend. Class heights will run through .60m, .70m, .80m and .90m, with riders ranging in age from 10 to 18 years old.
“One of the main intents behind this competition is to foster international friendship,” said coach and event organiser Mary Alberga. “The previous CEA (Caribbean Equestrian Association) show jumping circuit that we participated in for many years where riders travelled to different countries is no longer running and we knew that the kids would be missing out on the opportunity to travel, make friends and ride different horses, so we decided to extend invitations to our neighbouring countries and our partner barn in the USA, to bring riders to compete against our local riders.”
Riding for Cayman will be Polly Serpell, Youth Olympic Games bronze medalist; Ashley van den Bol; Basil Humphries; Charli Milgate; Abbey Swartz; Megan Swartz; Leah Alberga and Kayla Mannisto.
