Date and venue set for Stingray Tourism Awards
(CNS): The date for the 13th annual Cayman Stingray Tourism Awards has been moved back to 21 June 2016, with the venue confirmed as The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, organiser the Cayman Islands Tourism Association [CITA] has announced. CITA executive director Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks is encouraging members to submit their nominations by the 25 May deadline, saying, “We want to recognise greatness wherever due.”
The award – a cobalt blue hand-blown glass stingray – captures the essence of the Cayman Islands and the crystal clear waters that surround them.
Since its inception in 2004, the Cayman Stingray Tourism Awards have been organised by CITA, which, as non-profit organisation, relies on sponsorships and ticket sales for financial support. CITA strives to host this annual event to reward all of the hard-working individuals in the tourism industry.
John Douglas, of The Ritz-Carlton, who won the Rising Star Award in 2014, spoke of the pride he felt for that recognition, adding, “The award sits in a special place at home where it serves as a constant reminder that dedication has its own recompense.”
Sadie Cholette, winner of the Long Service Award in 2015, said, “I was overwhelmed and at the same time happy and grateful that my employer felt I was deserving of the nomination, and ultimately the award. Hospitality is my life and passion.
“I enjoy meeting people and telling them about our beautiful Islands. This award I will cherish for the rest of my life, and I will be forever grateful to my employer Plantana for nominating me for this award, and CITA for choosing me as the winner.”
