International Firefighters Day marked
(CNS): Cayman Islands Fire Service personnel gathered at their headquarters on Owen Roberts Drive to offer a minute’s silence for fallen firefighters the world over, and to pray for the welfare of hardworking firemen and women on International Firefighters Day, Wednesday, 4 May 2016. The day also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices that firefighters make, and offer thanks for the invaluable service they provide communities everywhere including in the Cayman Islands.
Historically, International Firefighters Day pays homage to Saint Florian, a Roman era firefighter and the patron saint of firefighters, explained Chief Fire Officer David Hails.
Meanwhile the Home Affairs Ministry’s Assistant Chief Officer Michael Ebanks expressed the community’s deep gratitude for Cayman Islands firefighters’ service, and their distinctive characteristics of courage, sacrifice, determination and selflessness.
Human Resources Manager Clara Smith, whose unit organised the event, added: “You are appreciated and valued.”

Thank you fire fighters for outing the fire to my home in East End after Easter. Great Job!
