Rundown premieres next week
(CNS): Actors will take to the stage next week for the opening of Rundown. Now in its 24th year, the annual comedy revue, which is the brainchild of Dave Martins, lampoons the latest happenings in the Cayman Islands and features a cast of performers mimicking the newsmakers of the day. The show will run from 12-29 May, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances starting at 8pm, and 6pm on Sundays. In addition to the 10 shows in Grand Cayman, one performance is planned for Cayman Brac in June.
This year’s stage production is once again written, designed and directed by Henry Muttoo, who took over writing the show from Martins in 2010. Of this year’s production, Muttoo said, “Expect to laugh and be entertained. Want to know whose names will be in Rundown? Come to the show.”
Skits set for this year’s production include “Foolish People”, “Nosey Mother In-Law”, “Capitalism Gone Mad” and “New Election Candidate”. As always, a diverse cast of performers will bring the show to life. On the stage will be returning performers like Matt Brown, Leroy Holness, Giselle Webb, and Lesley-Ann Bernard, as well as new cast members Cassandra Shea and Troy Rodgers.
“Rundown has lasted as long as it has because everyone who attends can identify with some topic in the production. The things you poke fun at in your home or with people you bump into at the supermarket, often make it to the Rundown stage – the home of the ‘marl road’,” said CNCF marketing and development manager Rita Estevanovich.
She added, “There is also room for commentary on some of the more serious issues facing the country, but by using comedy to help us swallow the truth, it is a little more palatable.”
Tickets, at $25 for adults, and $15 for seniors and children under the age of 12, can be reserved by calling 949-5477 or purchased online at the CNCF website. Ticket outlets include the CNCF box office, Foster’s Food Fair (The Strand), Funky Tang’s and Health Care Pharmacy in Grand Harbour.
