Halloween 30K race set for East End
(CNS Local Life): Cayman’s running community takes to the road again this weekend with a choice of racing distances. The KRyS Global 30K, Halloween 10-10-10 Relay and Fun 5K all take place in East End on Sunday, 30 October, marking the sixth consecutive year for this suite of races. The 30K race is used by many of Cayman’s long-distance runners as a pre-marathon warm-up, as it falls just five weeks before the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon on 4 December.
“All three races are sponsored by KRyS Global and we are grateful for their financial help and also assistance from their employees as volunteers,” said Derek Larner of organisers Race Caribbean.
Anna Keating, the company’s global marketing manager, said of their participation: “KRyS Global is very proud to sponsor this event for the third year and to assist in offering another unique course for Cayman’s running community to enjoy.
“KRyS Global is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles and what better way to start your Sunday than with a Caribbean sunrise, spectacular views and a refreshing sea breeze.”
The race starts 6am at Morritt’s Tortuga Resort with runners heading down the Queen’s Highway towards the north side of the island.
The race continues on a large loop inland by the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and all the way back to the coast road. Runners will enjoy sea views and other sights such as Gun Bay and the Wreck of the Ten Sails, completing the 30K loop back at the resort.
Last year’s two individual 30K winners, Chadwick Webster and Helki Weber, each also won the race in 2012. Webster set a new course record, completing the 30K in two hours and three minutes, shaving three minutes off the previous best time, which he set in his earlier win.
The Halloween 10-10-10 takes the same course as the 30K but is run as a three-person relay. This race has also become a warm-up for those teams participating in the marathon relay. The 5K event will start at 7am and is ideal for those who prefer to walk or run a shorter distance. All races start and finish at Morritt’s.
Everyone is encouraged to dress up, as a prize will be awarded for best costume.
Participants must pre-register, either online at CaymanActive or in person at Camana Bay on Saturday, 29 October between 10am and 5pm. For further details and to send in completed registration forms, email Derek Larner
