Get dangerous bikers off the road
What can be done about the crazy motorbikers who use the roads to carry out dangerous stunts, even when there is traffic around? Last night a young man balanced on his seat whilst still moving and then went onto one wheel at 5:45pm, so when there was lots of traffic. I was driving behind him and do not want to be the person that runs him over when he slips.
Auntie’s answer: I cannot say how long bikers have been riding recklessly on our roads but the issue has recently roared, as it were, into the public domain (See Police to clamp down on motorbike mayhem).
I have witnessed this myself over the last few months with young men doing wheelies on roads in the area where many schools are located; clearly, that is a terrifying accident waiting to happen.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) has said dealing with this issue is a priority and a representative has confirmed the police have stepped up enforcement and operations.
But they are also asking for help from the community. If the offending vehicle is a motorbike and not a dirt bike, anyone who witnesses the transgression is asked to take down the registration number and get that to the police. There is a caveat, however, as the RCIPS official explained: “We cannot arrest someone based on observations from a third party; nonetheless this information is important and useful as we work with the community to address the increasing problems and irresponsible behaviour on the road.”
In addition, the police are requesting that if anyone becomes aware of a planned gathering or “ride” by dirt bikers to let the RCIPS know. You can call the confidential tip line at 949-7777.

Police have already ceded the roads to these maniacs, by their total inaction. Now they are going to COOPERATE and allow the illegal riders to have a road rally?? RCIPS, please remove your heads from where the sun doesn’t shine and stop this insanity!!
We need cops who can do there job and find out who owns which bikes and start confiscating and prosecuting. Our cops do so little. They have so much resources but show few results. There are over 300 let’s get serious.
Motorcycle number plates are almost invariably missing or hidden under the seat, so how is one to report a registration plate to the police? The same goes for the 50% of trailers that have no plates, brake lights, reflectors or properly inflated tyres. It’s anarchy out there on the roads and those who obey the Law are getting very upset and frustrated about it. And don’t get me started on the marl trucks…
#BikeLife !! I feel as if all of us that ‘RIDE BIKES” are staying out of WAAAAAYY more trouble than we used to be getting into before we really got into the bike life. Why are all of these people trying to fight against us riders, instead of commending us? What else is there to do so that all the community could come together as 1? On Sundays or any other day of the week, or even when we have ride outs such as ROC 2k16. Don’t you notice that’s the ONLY time that west bayers could par with towners? I mean like seriously now.. We can go out to the clubs and see a west bayer or towner that we don’t like and we automatically run for a gun.. but when we RIDE we ride as 1. I guess what these people are trying to say is that they rather have more killings on this island instead of us putting our guns down and riding our bikes as one community. Majority of the people on island enjoy these rideouts. I’m pretty sure they enjoy that more than walking up to a friends or family members dead body. I think us riders should be thanked and appreciated in some type of way. me as a rider would NEVER EVER stop riding no matter what the situation might come to. #BikesUpGunsDown #100
I think the spokesperson for the RCIPS may have meant “‘We cannot arrest someone based SOLELY on observations from a third party”
The police can’t arrest based on our observations, they aren’t on the road to observe themselves and when they are, they don’t do anything. I saw a video on Instagram of the ride out weekend of a police car on the roundabout and the bikes stopping traffic and wheelying. How many did that police observe and arrest? They knew the event was happening, and there was one police car?
At this point I say if you want to stop the wreckless bikers, give em a good brake check when they wheelie behind you. Waste of time waiting on the RCIP (Royal Cayman Incompetent Police) to do anything about it.
Our Police tactics are too lazy and dumb. These bikes don’t have plates, and they easily drive around the flashing light police roadblocks that can been seen for a mile or more.
‘We cannot arrest someone based on observations from a third party” is total made-up nonsense and emphasizes the problem.
“Bobo, we have three separate reports that you were seen performing wheelies on a bike that looks a lot like the one leaning against your garage wall, and wearing a shiny stainless steel German helmet that looks identical to the one in your hand at 3.20pm yesterday afternoon. Could you please let us know your whereabouts at that time, and who can corroborate what you are telling us.”
If there was a murder and a third party reported seeing Bobo shoot the victim, there would be an investigation and subsequent arrest (either of the person making a false report or of Bobo). It is called Police work!
No wonder there is less and less cooperation from the public.
