Community called on to help celebrate children
(CNS Local Life): Ahead of Child Month in May, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is asking for community support in organising events. While the DCFS finalises its planned activities, the agency is also requesting that local offices, schools, churches and clubs arrange their own events to mark the occasion.
“Child Month is a very important celebration for us and by extension the community as a whole,” said DCFS Director Felicia Robinson. “It’s a chance for us to highlight issues affecting children and to encourage families, parents, teachers and others that are in caregiving roles to focus on these needs and ensure that we prioritise them.
“We strongly encourage organisations, schools, churches and groups of individuals to host family and child-centred activities and hope that during this month businesses will also consider offering discounts for children.”
The DCFS is also asking Child Month activity organisers to like the department’s Facebook page, where they can post pictures of their events throughout May.
