Maples won best team spirit in 2016

(CNS Local Life): The National Trust is hosting its fourth annual Glow Run 5K on Saturday, 3 June, as the organisation celebrates 30 years of conservation. Participants are encouraged to dress in 80s attire with neon, jelly bracelets, big hair, gaudy accessories, leg warmers and more. All ages and fitness levels are encouraged to show up to run or walk. Last year the event drew 700 registered runners.

“Proceeds from this community event will benefit the Trust’s education programme which teaches thousands of students the importance of protecting Cayman’s history, environment and culture, ” said Danielle Watler, Trust marketing manager.

The run will begin and end at the entrance of Safehaven, with the halfway turnaround in front of Holiday Inn. Start time is 7:30pm. Pre-race entertainment, beginning at 6:30pm, will comprise an aerobics warm-up, face painting, a photo station and glow bubble attraction.

Post-event highlights include a glow foam pit for participants to cool down. Additional glow items will be on sale while participants enjoy 80s rock music played by local deejay Atom Skillz and emceed by radio personality Matty Sloane.

There will be prizes for the top three finishers for the male, female and children’s category. The team that displays the best spirit in the most creative way will receive a custom plaque, and best glow costume will also get a prize. Each participant will receive a runner’s pack with glow goodies from the event. Additional glow items are available at the Trust merchandise store located in Dart Family Park, South Sound.

Watler encouraged corporate sponsorship for the event, saying, “In addition to the positive impact your support will have on the Trust’s conservation efforts, this will be a unique opportunity to promote your company’s commitment to preserving Cayman’s heritage in an exciting way.”

Registration for Trust members is $25 for Trust members and $35 for non-members, with children ages 3 to 12 at $20. Those who sign up for Trust membership, valued at CI $30, will receive a limited edition “Wild Spaces, Special Places” engagement calendar along with two additional glow items in their runner’s pack.
