Public bus travels by the airport
I understand there is a bus service now for US$2.50 from the airport to SMB. Is this true? I hear it runs every 20 minutes between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday.
Auntie’s answer: I can report that it is true, the bus service does exist. The Ministry of Transport and Public Transport Unit (PTU) both weighed in on this question to confirm the route.
Known as the West Bay 3 route, the bus travels along Owen Roberts Drive, but it does not enter the terminal area of the airport. The closest stop to the airport would be on David Foster Drive by the long-term parking lot.
The route goes along West Bay Road to the junction with Lawrence Boulevard; after that the bus travels down the Esterley Tibbetts Highway to West Bay. This bus, whose fare is indeed US$2.50, is a new addition so an updated route map has not yet been printed. The PTU is also working to get bus stops installed.
As for the frequency of the route, it is better than you’ve heard. The buses are scheduled to leave the bus depot (next to the George Town Public Library) every 15 minutes from 7am-7pm Monday to Friday.

This is great news
The Bypass route has been there for years,, but the busses never take it.
Otherwise, can you give us a cell. number/hotline for PTU so we can confirm when this service is needed?
Can one bring a suitcase on the bus? And if it’s intended to assist air passengers shouldnt it start much earlier to accommodate access to the 6-9am flights.
What route does it take from the airport to west Bay Road? It would make more sense if it took the esterley tibbets to Lawrence Boulevard and then took west Bay Road to west Bay. Seems odd that it would miss out most of Seven Mile Beach by traveling the esterley tibbets from Lawrence Boulevard to west Bay.
Or you can just drive there drunk or high like 50% of the road users.
This is about cheaper ways to and from the airport, not drunk drivers. smh
