Santa and his elf with an ODAAT puppy

(CNS Local Life): The ninth annual Scubaluminations in aid of the One Dog at a Time (ODAAT) charity, is set for Thursday, 14 December, from 6 pm. Santa will be arriving at the event, held at Rackam’s on the George Town waterfront, on a boat pulled by illuminated, underwater reindeer.

Once he is on dry land, Santa will be available for photos with children and adults alike as tell him what they want for Christmas. Various “pop-up shops” will at the event, including s pop art creator and a sunglass vendor, which will be donating money to ODAAT for every pair purchased on the evening. There will also be face painting and Henna tattoos.

The charity will also be accepting any donations of dog-related items to give to their rescued dogs and puppies, such as dog biscuits, treats, bowls and toys, as well as equipment that they can loan to their foster homes, such as towels, crates and puppy pads.

Dogs Hooch and Indy, whom the charity is trying to place in forever homes, will be making an appearance and available to be petted.

The annual ODAAT raffle will also be drawn, with tickets on sale for $5 each at the event. Prizes include tank dives, jewellery, housewares, nights away, restaurant vouchers, make-over sessions and spa-related gifts.

TV journalist Joe Avary will be singing with Santa’s little elves, to traditional and modern Christmas music.

The ODAAT team raises money to use on rescued dogs from the pound as well as unwanted or stray dogs and puppies. “Currently this year we have saved over 157 dogs and puppies, so we are always seeking new foster homes and extra volunteers,” said ODAAT president Paula Blane.

“For example, collecting donations that we can sell at the ODAAT garage sales and pop-up shows, or helping at the airport when our dogs are being transferred to New York or Toronto are ways that the local community can help if they are unable to look after dogs at home.”

The group is currently looking for suitable premises from which to run a small shop as well as provide space for additional dogs and puppies to be housed and exercised during the day.
