Cayman Airways unveils 50th anniversary logo
(CNS Local Life): Ahead of its 50th anniversary in August this year, Cayman Airways (CAL) has branded its entire fleet with a special logo to mark the occasion. “We’re very excited to see all of our aircraft flying this commemorative logo for such a historic milestone,” said Fabian Whorms, the airline’s CEO. “It’s a very proud occasion, not only for all of us at Cayman Airways, but also for the Cayman Islands overall.”
The logo was designed by Cayman Airways’ creative services and product development manager, Charles Gilman, who said it was inspired by the stars prominently featured in the Cayman Islands Coat of Arms, which is emblazoned on the tail of each aircraft, stated a press release.
“The green ‘50’ is embellished in golden accents, exemplifying the pride that Cayman’s residents feel for their national airline, as well as representing the traditional gold colour typically used to mark 50th anniversaries,” he explained.
Gilman added that the logo incorporates the fleet’s most state-of-the-art aircraft – the Boeing 737-800 – creating an optical illusion of the depicted plane flying both away from and toward the viewer. He said the illusion is indicative of the anniversary as they look back on CAL’s past and toward its future.
He explained that the design and approval process for the logo took several months and included input from the airline’s executive management team and board of directors.
For CAL’s 40th anniversary, the airline’s fleet was completely rebranded to the livery seen today. Before that, Cayman Airways aircraft were branded with a promotional logo in 2004 in partnership with the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism’s “Spongebob” campaign. The fleet consists of three Boeing 737-300 aircraft, one Boeing 737-800, two Saab 340B+, and two Twin Otters.
Cayman Airways launched its year-long “Golden Year” campaign in January, which entails monthly destination highlights and travel offers.
