In search of a pickleball game in Cayman
Is there a place we could play pickleball on the island? We are on a cruise ship and thought it would be fun if we could play pickleball instead of going on an excursion.
Auntie’s answer: I have to say I never expected to see “pickle” and “ball” in the same sentence, much less the same word. No surprise, and for full disclosure, I have never heard of pickleball before, but perhaps I am in the minority here.
As I have now learned, and for those who are also just hearing about this sport, it is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis, played with paddles and a perforated plastic ball.
Anyway, I contacted the Department of Sports to see if they could help you in your quest. Unfortunately, it looks like you will have to spend your time in Cayman enjoying our lovely beaches or going sightseeing because a department official said they were not aware of any place on the island where pickleball is played.
If any reader knows of a spot where this sport is enjoyed, please write in to let us know.

Pickle ball is increasing in popularity especially with seniors and helps fitness so should not be dismissed because it’s new!! It is very fun!! The playing court is much smaller than a tennis court so uses less real estate too. Take care and be healthy!
Im a long time visitor to your island. I do not go on excursions . I did the Stingrays twice, visited Hell once, but I don’t find excursions too exciting. Would I play pickle ball? Probably not, but it might be fun for a family or group who has an hour after the beach. I would love ( and have done so on other islands) watched local cricket games or baseball games. I do wish GC would post the sports schedule somewhere where tourists could take note. When on island and I have asked- no one seems to know. Thank you.
Crazy idea..how about taking the time to discover and play a sport popular with and enjoyed by Caymanians while here?
Just a thought.

Most nations do not consider petty bigotry a sport as you do.
pickle ball is the best game ever! We played it every year in high school gym class, and I still remember how competitive and fun it was! I wish we had it here- I’d sign up asap! so great!
It will probably be an Olympic sport before that crappy game squash too.
Don’t know what pickle ball is, can’t imagine that it’s actually a sport,Just sounds like a weird game designed for frat houses.
I thought about the same answer as Aunties . Enjoy your cruise and do something that you can’t do at home . The snorkeling , and diving is a good, or take a tour to the turtle farm and hell is something you can’t do at home . Or just go to the beautiful 7 mile beach and soak up a few hours of the Cayman sunshine . The rum punch and mudslides are great too . Life is too short to play one game all the time .
I’m sure that they can do both.
There are two house in NS that have courts but they are private homes.
For $100 a head you can use my front lawn.
Time-waster
Any tennis court can be adapted to play pickleball. Lots of tourists on 7 Mile use the tennis courts at their resort for this purpose.
Weirdest question of year.
Nope, never heard of it but i am sure by this time next year there will be a few teams lined up to challenge you and your team. So come back again where the sun is always outside your window. Hope Dave Martin don’t mind me using his lyrics here.
This comment was recently posted on the Trip Advisor Grand Cayman Forum:
“For anyone staying at the Islands Club on SMB, the tennis court there is also lined for pickle ball. And it is lit for nighttime use. Of course the court is for registered guests of the Islands Club.”
Just a great example of cruise ship passengers. Don’t want to spend money, why are we worried about a dock let’s concentrate on the stay over passengers that want to spend money
Just because a person is not going on an excursion does not mean they are not going to spend money. They still need to be transported, they still need to eat and drink, and they still may buy a souvenir. Not to mention that we still get a departure tax for every cruise ship passenger, if they get off the boat or not.
pickleball is played at the Ritz-Carlton courts
I am a Caymanian pickleball player and know that Wyndham Resort in East End has equipment that can be used on their tennis court. Hopefully the court will be modified ( marked) for pickleball too.
Hi Jusme, I am a 4.5 level pickleball player, in Grand Cayman until January 1. If you know where and when there is a game, please feel free to post it here. I would love to play and / or teach while I am here.
It’s a damn shame that our elected officials are too stupid to realize this.
