Cayman joins global sailing event
(CNS Local Life): The Cayman Islands sailing community will be participating in the global Bart’s Bash event this Sunday, 16 September. This is the fifth edition of the race, which takes place at hundreds of venues around the world, with thousands of sailors in different classes of boat. This year there will be an official attempt at the Guinness World Record for the largest sailing race in 24 hours in multiple locations.
Founded in 2014, Bart’s Bash honours the life and legacy of British Olympic Gold Medallist and America’s Cup sailor, Andrew “Bart” Simpson, who tragically lost his life whilst training for the America’s Cup in 2013, stated a Cayman Islands Sailing Club (CISC) press release.
Funds raised through the event will help develop young people’s sailing skills and make sailing accessible to all in the Cayman Islands, increasing participation and improving lives through sailing, said the release.
The club said it welcomes participants to launch and sail on Sunday from 1pm, with racing to start at 2pm.
Sailors can register online here, listing CISC as the venue. For more information on the event email CISC
