Walk/run hits the right notes for JGHS students
(CNS Local Life): Coming off a record-setting 2017, the 12th annual Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run took place Saturday, 3 November, raising funds for the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and the John Gray High School (JGHS) music department. Almost 190 runners and walkers, comprising a cross-section of the community from students to senior citizens, participated in the annual charity event.
Norma McField, director of organizer Radio Cayman, thanked the participants for supporting the causes that will benefit from the funds, stated a press release, saying it was “yet another awesome event” and adding, “we hope that it will grow even more, with increased participants and sponsorships”.
Radio Cayman deputy director Paulette Connolly-Bailey said of the event, “I was delighted to see the great support again this year and the smiles on everyone’s faces, made me feel joy in my heart that we had accomplished our goal of helping these worthy charities. It was a fantastic morning overall and I can’t wait for next year’s event.”
The event, organised by Radio Cayman and Breeze FM since its inception in 2007, has supported the NCVO, an independent, non-profit, charitable organisation which engages in projects to meet the ever-growing needs of the community. Funds from this year’s Grand Cayman race also benefitted the JGHS music department, and students from the school performed by the beach at Smith Barcadere following the race.
In the community spirit promoted by the event, a number of MLAs pledged their support of students from their respective district schools, including Moses Kirkconnell, Ezzard Miller, Alva Suckoo and Kenneth Bryan., the release said.
Next up is the third annual Brac Breeze leg on 24 November. The Cayman Brac event costs $15 for adults and $10 for students, with registration available online at CaymanActive.
