Suggestions for donating toys
I want to donate some of my son’s toys to charity. Can you tell me where I can do this?
Auntie’s answer: While I am always happy to find the answers to difficult questions and help people solve problems, I cannot deny it is also nice to be able to deal with a query such as yours. And what better time to do so then as we approach the holiday season.
There are several places that will gladly accept your child’s toys, starting with the Cayman Islands Red Cross, which runs a thrift shop at the charity’s Huldah Avenue location. You can read more about the thrift shop and the guidelines for donations here. If you need more information, call the store at 949-SHOP (7467) or email the thrift shop.
The Cayman Islands Humane Society runs a book loft and thrift shop, at its North Sound Way headquarters. The shop will take toys that are in good condition. For more information, call (946-8053) or email the shop.
Another good option is One Dog at a Time (ODAAT). The dog-rescue charity runs two “New to You” thrift shops, the main one at Unit 2, Row 2 JJT Warehouses in Industrial Park, and a smaller version at unit 26, the Warehouses, on Bodden Road, off Eastern Avenue. For more information, email ODAAT.

In addition, I recommend you keep an eye out for announcements of random collections for other charities ahead of Christmas; most might request donations of new toys, but you might find takers for used ones in good condition.
